F1 Sprint Points 2022

Formula 1 Sprint Format Returns with New Changes in 2022

Revised Point System and Expanded Sprint Race Schedule

The Formula 1 Sprint format makes a comeback in 2022, but not without a few alterations. The finishing order of the Sprint will still determine the starting grid for Sunday's main event, the Grand Prix. However, this year, points will be awarded to the top eight drivers instead of just the top three. This revised point system provides more opportunities for drivers to earn points and climb the standings.

Formula One will host three qualifying sprint races in 2022. These races will be held in Bahrain, Austria, and Brazil. The Sprint format consists of a 100km race, approximately one-third the distance of a regular Grand Prix. Drivers' finishing positions in the Sprint will determine their starting positions for the main race. The points system has been revised to reward drivers who perform well in the Sprint.

The previous point system awarded points only to the top three finishers in the Sprint. In 2022, the top eight drivers will receive points. This change encourages drivers to compete fiercely for positions throughout the Sprint, as every point matters. The revised point system is as follows:

  • 1st place: 8 points
  • 2nd place: 7 points
  • 3rd place: 6 points
  • 4th place: 5 points
  • 5th place: 4 points
  • 6th place: 3 points
  • 7th place: 2 points
  • 8th place: 1 point

The expanded Sprint race schedule and revised point system aim to enhance the excitement and competitiveness of the Formula 1 Sprint format. These changes provide drivers with more incentives to perform well in the Sprint and give fans more opportunities to witness thrilling racing action.
